Panchakarma Ayurvedic treatment is one of the most potent forms of traditional Ayurvedic medicine that involves detoxification to restore balance in the body. It is comprised of 5 procedures that are performed in sequence. Traditional Ayurveda Panchakarma treatments remove harmful toxins from the body, purify the blood, and improve mental and emotional clarity.
The Process
The Ayurveda Panchakarma process consists of three stages– Purva karma which is the preparatory stage and made up of 2 parts: Snehana and Swedana, Pradhana Karma which is the main therapy, and Paschat Karma post treatment phase.
Purva karma prepares the body for the more rigorous process of detox in the main therapy. This is done through massage, oral intake of oils for internal oleation and localized therapies. These are formulated to lubricate body channels and loosen any toxins in the body for easier elimination. It can make the toxins flow into different channels like Gastro intestinal tract and fro there elimination is possible to cleanse those channels.
The main therapy includes different forms of detoxification including vamana, purgation, emesis- the use of medicated enemas, and nasal administration. Monitoring is crucial at this stage since detoxification is not always a relaxing therapy. Physicians address each and every concerns that come up and supports to address the emotional swings that can come up while the toxins are being cleansed.
The last stage is rejuvenation which includes the intake of a special diet, yoga, and meditation. At this stage the person is made to acclimatize to their usual daily activities and food patterns.
How long does a treatment last?
A typical Ayurvedic treatment lasts for two weeks– 6 days spent for preparation, 1 day for the main therapies and 7 days for the rejuvenation phase.
