The first step in getting treatment is finding the right LASIK eye surgeon to perform the procedure. If you’re choosing one for the first time, though, here are DOs and DON’Ts you should keep in mind.
Don’t: Rushing through the selection process
Don’t be in a rush to pick a surgeon. Take the time to check out the doctor’s background and specialization, instead of choosing an ophthalmologist with little to no experience in doing LASIK surgery.
Do: Get referrals
Ask friends and family for tips and advice. Referrals from people you know and trust can give you the best leads on finding a LASIK surgeon who can get you the best results possible.
Don’t: Not checking credentials
Always check on your doctor’s credentials. Are you hiring a board-certified surgeon? You should. That’s a good guarantee that you’re choosing a competent professional for the job.
Do: Ask questions
Make up a list of questions. Read up on the procedure, too. That’s going to give you a better understanding of what’s going to happen and can help you generate questions that can give you further clarification on any issues or concerns you may have at this time. If your doctor doesn’t seem inclined to provide satisfactory answers or doesn’t seem to know more about the topic, that could be a red flag. Experienced surgeons shouldn’t have any problems providing you with the information you need.
Don’t: Not knowing the risks
Before you undergo the procedure, it’s also important to know all the risks and possible side-effects that may happen, the Doctor NDTV says. The right surgeon will make sure you’re well aware of those side-effects and risks before you move forward with the procedure.
Do: Know the limitations
A good doctor will also tell you about the limitations of the treatment. It can solve your vision problems but it’s not a miracle treatment. Find out what it can do and can’t.
