The Sanskrit word Ayurveda is a combination of the two words: ayur meaning life and veda meaning science. It is the oldest medical system which has originated from the Indian subcontinent.
This traditional Hindu system of medicine incorporated in the Atharva Veda seeks to treat and integrate the body, mind, and spirit. It discovers the origin of the disease and eradicates it with the help of a healthy diet, herbal remedies, exercise and physical therapies.
The health consciousness of the people has led to the opening up of many Ayurvedic Health Centres. The services that an Ayurvedic Health Centre should provide are:
- Panchakarma Therapy:
The Sanskrit word Panchakarma means five actions. It is the consolidation of the five procedures for the detoxification of the body from the ama and the correction of the three doshas. Purvakarma precedes the Panchakarma because the body needs to be prepared for undergoing the rigorous process of detoxification. The treatments like Abhyanga, Shirodhara, and Elakizhi soften the tissues while massaging the oil on the entire body; this enables the toxins to move towards the gastrointestinal tracts. These are followed by the therapies like Vamana, Virechana, Vasti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana according to the three doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) to detoxify the body completely. - Kuti Praveshika Rasayana:
It is the isolation of the individual from the outside world while giving the sensory points of the body complete rest. The sensory points of the body consist of the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin. The procedure of the Kuti Praveshika Rasayana ranges for four weeks to a few months. During the isolation, the individual stays within the hut especially designed for this treatment, and a diet consisting of milk and ghee is administered to him. Before this procedure, the Panchakarma therapy is performed for at least two weeks to detoxify the body and prepare the patient mentally for the Kuti Praveshika Rasayana treatment.
These services at an Ayurvedic Health Centre accompanied by yoga, a balanced diet and some changes in the lifestyle can go a long way in aiding the individual in leading a much healthier life. Contact Athreya Ayurvedic Centre today. Follow us on Twitter.
