Why Reverse Osmosis? A Multi-Step Clean for Your Water

by | Oct 23, 2018 | Water Filters

Are you considering buying a water filtration system for your home? You may have heard about reverse osmosis systems, but may not understand how they work or whether they would work for your family’s needs. Here’s what you need to know about this interesting science – and how it makes for healthier, more hydrated families:

Why Filter?

Choosing a water filter for your home may be viewed by some as an unnecessary expense, but those people probably look at their water, see that it’s clear and deem it safe to consume. They couldn’t be more wrong. Just because your water doesn’t show obvious signs of disease or contamination doesn’t mean it’s safe. In fact, some of the most dangerous contaminants are impossible to detect with the human senses – but can harm or even kill those who come in contact with them. Filtration for the home removes these contaminants and makes water not just clear and fresh-tasting, but safe for all uses around the house.

Two Steps to Freshness

One of the benefits of choosing a reverse osmosis system is that they contain at least two filters in each system. They are typically outfitted with a pre-filter made from activated carbon. Activated carbon is carbon that has been enhanced to be more absorbent and to have increased surface area for filtration, making it extremely efficient in this application. Carbon filtration will easily remove chlorine and other chemical contaminants.

Once water has passed through the pre-filtration phase, it enters a chamber where it will be put under pressure to induce the reverse osmosis process. This pressure pushes contaminated water through a semipermeable membrane which allows only water molecules to pass through, leaving the contaminants behind. This two-step process makes for cleaner, healthier water that tastes delicious, making it a perfect choice for families of all kinds.
