Wedding Officiant Checklist: 7 Things to Do

by | Oct 11, 2017 | Weddings

Aside from the venue, flowers and cake, finding the right wedding officiant in Corpus Christi should be high on your checklist.

Decide on the kind of ceremony you want

If you and your fiancé don’t share the same faith, you’ll need to decide on the kind of ceremony you want. That might be Jewish, Catholic or even a non-denominational one.

Ask about experience

How many weddings has your officiant done in the past? Does he have experience performing ceremonies similar to yours? Long-standing experience is a good indication that you’re getting the right person for the job.

Request for references

If you want to make sure you’re getting someone who’s right for the job, asking for a list of references won’t hurt. 5 is a good number to go for, says Real Simple.

Call them up

Don’t just toss those references onto a pile on your desk and forget about them. Call them up. Ask how their experience with the officiant went. Did they run into problems? The last thing you want is for the minister or pastor to go on a political commentary at any time during the wedding ceremony. That would kill the mood. If that was a problem from past clients, it would be a good idea to look for other options.

Ask about credentials

Still another important detail to clear up is the matter of credentials. Choose a wedding officiant in Corpus Christi that’s licensed and recognized by the state.

Determine availability

Do you want an officiant who’s simply going to turn up for the wedding? Is your officiant available for those dates and times? You’ll need to know before you proceed.

Extend an invite

Ask the officiant to join the reception. Plan for an extra plate on the table ahead so if yours agrees, you’ll be ready.
