Are Senior Companion Services Right For Your Elderly Parent?

by | May 10, 2017 | Healthcare

Knowing what services an elderly parent requires and what level of care is necessary is difficult for anyone. At Capital City Nurses our first step is to provide a care assessment that our care coordinators will develop with input from the family.

Our assessment will be instrumental in developing a plan for care and senior companion services to meet the needs of the patient and the family. This can include both physical as well as emotional care and support. Adding these services to provide support when the family cannot be there is an easy way to give the family and the senior peace of mind.

Support With Daily Activities

Often seniors have difficulty in managing daily tasks around the home even if they do not require specific medical care or attention. Our IADL Companion Care program offers services to help the senior stay in their home and have support with meal preparation, light housework and laundry duties, and even to have transportation and companionship to and from doctors visits, when running errands, or to go shopping.

At Capital City Nurses we make every effort to match our caregivers with seniors, and to provide the same caregiver for our clients on an ongoing basis. This helps seniors feel more comfortable with the professional and allows a true bond to form that makes our caregivers part of the senior’s support network.

We also provide our caregivers with specialized training to provide the best senior companion services based on the individual client’s needs. They even attend cooking classes taught by a professional chef, so they not only provide nutritious but also delicious meals.

Other Options

For seniors requiring less care and more companionship, we offer our unique Daughter/Son Down the Street program. Our staff will provide a friendly visit just to chat, or perhaps arrange a special outing or event for the senior. More casual and social in nature, the program is an opportunity for the senior to have a day out or a time to spend with someone in their own home.

This provides the chance for the senior to get out to attend various activities in the community they may not feel comfortable attending on their own. Our companion caregivers can provide transportation, great conversation and a true friend to go places and try out new or favorite things in the area.

With any of our senior companion services the support from our trained, professional and compassionate caregivers will assist the senior in feeling connected to the world around them. The family will also be provided with information as requested, allowing everyone to have more comfort in the senior being cared for while continuing to live independently. You can also follow them on Google+ for more updates.
